The Island Foods Story

Toronto's Favourite West Indian Cuisine

A Family Owned Business

Serving Toronto Since 1973

You’ll find Kim most comfortable in the kitchen and behind the counter, talking to customers who are like family to this restaurateur and busy mom of three.  But Kim doesn’t see herself as just a business owner, she grew up in the restaurant business. Kim’s parents, Ruth and Ramasar, opened their first location in the Dufferin Mall in 1973 and Toronto’s iconic Island Foods location in Parkdale in 1986.

A Generational Family Business

When the second generation continued the family tradition, Kim and her twin sister Lisa, better known as the ‘Island Foods Twins’ made the Parkdale location their second home until it closed in 2019 due to a condominium development.

Sharing food is a part of Kim’s family and she is proud to carry on the tradition at Island Foods Express located at Woodbine Avenue and Highway 7 in York Region. Home-style traditional Trinidadian and Caribbean cooking with an emphasis on convenient, healthy, and delicious options are all part of the Island Foods tradition.

Kim’s sister Vicky and her brother Dave have independent Island Foods locations in Toronto.
